The Washington State Association of Colored Women's Clubs (WSACWC) was organized in 1917 in Spokane, WA. An affiliate of the National Association of Colored Women's Club located in Washington, DC, organized July 1896 and the NW Regional association of CWC. The project preserved this important history by digitizing WSACWC artifacts, precious photographs of members and documenting events that have occurred over the years and near future. The project enabled the group to include digital material in their presentations, conferences and meetings. Displays with poster size photos of club women and events produced through the grant are used in recruiting new members and educating the public of the Association and its activities. The group also recorded and digitized some oral histories of its older members and scanned its current, associated materials. In capturing the stories and preserving biographies, the club preserved its identity. The group also developed a website at http://tacomacwc.org/index.html with additional information about their organization.
